Important Notice: New registration for “HIV Diagnosis and Management” is now closed and the course will no longer be available after June 30th, 2020. The course has been updated to ensure consistency with new clinical guidelines, practices and recommendations regarding the care and treatment of people living with HIV. A new course entitled, “HIV Treatment and Management” will be launched mid-April 2020. For those currently enrolled and wishing to complete “HIV Diagnosis and Management” you have until June 30th, 2020, after which the course will be taken down.

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS has developed this online course for health care professionals to support their continuing medical education needs. This course is designed to allow professional learners to access up-­to-­date knowledge on the diagnosis and management of HIV. As a result, the course will offer new skills and knowledge applicable to clinical practice and quality patient care.

Due to overlapping content, CFPC Mainpro+ credits cannot be claimed for both HIV Diagnosis and Management – BC and HIV Diagnosis and Management – Saskatchewan.

Course Objectives

Rapid advances in HIV management and treatment require the ongoing attention of health care practitioners. This course will address the implications of new information on strategies for the diagnosis and interdisciplinary management of HIV-­positive patients, including the management medication toxicities, opportunistic infections, and co-infections such as Hepatitis B and C. Clinical learning contents will be put into a broader context by reviewing the epidemiology of HIV in British Columbia as well as the principles of Treatment as Prevention©.

Duration of the course

The course will take you between 8 and 10 hours to complete, depending on your own speed.

Course Assessments/Quizzes
  • There are quizzes for all modules except modules 8 and 11. In order to receive a Continuing Professional Development Certificate, all 9 quizzes are required to be completed, with a minimum grade of 70% on each quiz. This online 1-credit-per-hour Self-Learning program has been certificated by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 10 Mainpro+ credits
